Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Morocco

I left home at 2am on Monday morning and fifteen hours later I arrived here via a night bus, the Gatwick Express, a half empty Easyjet flight (I slept across three seats), an overpriced taxi and a spectacular five hour bus ride over the Atlas mountains in the rain. By the end of the day I’d been offered marriage once, sex twice, mint tea twice, Berber massage twice and trips into the Sahara by camel more often than I could count.  I declined all but the mint tea.

Ouarzazate has a number of film studios and the heritage site I’ve come to see has been used in a number of films, including Gladiator. Sadly I didn’t bump into any hunky international film stars in the chicken market so you’ll be hearing from me again.
